Upcoming Events

There are many activities, groups and events that are going on locally outside of our parish.  If you are looking to expand your faith, to find something fun to do, to learn something new, to support a charity, or to be more involved with your community; please check back here often to see if there is anything going on in our neighborhood that may be of interest or help to you.

Local Events:

  • At the Cenacle - The following programs are being offered at the Cenacle in Ronkonkoma:
    • Meeting God in the Detours, Saturday, January 7th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Presenter: Bev Bienemann, Cenacle Staff Associate.
    • Windows into St. Therese Couderx: A Silent Overnight of Prayer, Friday, January 13th to Saturday, January 14th. Presenters: Kathy Madden, CND and Elenore Woronick, R.C.
    • Finding God in All Things (Even in What You are Least Grateful For), Saturday, January 14th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
    • Retreat for Men in Recovery, Friday, January 20th to Sunday, January 22nd. Presenter: Gerard O’Brien, S.J.

  • Faith and Light Meeting - Friday, January 6th at 7:00 PM at Parish of the Holy Cross, 95 Old Nichols Road, Nesconset. Faith and Light is an organization for people with developmental challenges and their families and care givers.
  • Men’s Forum - Monday, January 9th at 7:30 PM at Sts. Philip & James Church, One Carrow Place, St. James. Onward Christian Soldier will be title of the talk given by guest speaker John Labriola, author and radio and television personality. Register early at mensforum@sspj.org or call 631-584-5454.
  • Homegrown Music Cafe, is a monthly concert series featuring Long Island and regional singer songwriters who donate their time to help raise funds for the St. Gerard Majella Parish Outreach program. Over the years St. Gerard’s Outreach has fed, clothed and comforted hundreds of families in need. Performances take place monthly at the St. Gerard Majella Church Chapel on the second Saturday of the month at 8 PM. The next performance is Saturday, January 14th at 8 PM at St. Gerard Majella Church, 300 Terryville Road, Port Jefferson Station. Featured artist: Jay Scott. Also appearing: Alice Levine and James O’Malley. The show starts at 8 PM. There is a $5 suggested donation at the door.   • Stories from Pope John Paul II’s Life as Told by the Archbishop of Dublin, and a Presentation by Msgr. Giussani: At the Origin of the Christian Claim - New York Encounter is a three-day cultural festival open to the public and organized by the Catholic movement “Communion and Liberation” - C&L - and the Crossroads Cultural center. It will take place at the Manhattan Center, 34th Street and 8th Avenue. Highlights will include: Saturday, January 14th at 2:30 PM, “John Paul II: Saint Because True Man: Stories from His Life,” with speakers: Msgr. L. Albacete,  theologian; Archbishop D. Martin, Archbishop of Dublin; and C. Zanussi, movie director. Sunday, January 15th at 2:30  PM, “What is Christianity?” A presentation of the fundamental elements of the Christian fact in light of At the Origin of the Christian Claim by Msgr. L. Giussani. Speakers: Fr. J. Carron, president of the Fraternity of C&L and Fr. S. Griffith, professor of Semitic Languages at CUA. Crossroads finds its inspiration in the life of C&L which organizes the annual Way of the Cross over the Brooklyn Bridge on Good Friday.   • You Can Save Your Marriage Now! Attend a Retrouvaille Weekend. Retrouvaille is a peer ministry. Couples who have had problems in their own marriages and have recovered, share their experiences with couples currently in troubled marriages with the hope that their marriage can be saved. The  next weekend begins on Friday, February 3rd at the Montfort Retreat House in Bay Shore. For information, please call 1-800-470-2230 and you will be connected (confidentially) to an experienced couple from Long Island/Metro Retrouvaille who can help.
  • Do you know someone who is hurting from an abortion? The Life Center of Long Island invites you to attend a Weekend Retreat of Healing, from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. There will be several dates offered in 2012. Our next Healing Retreat, conducted in English, will take place February 17th to 19th.
