Introduction:

St. Patrick offers classes in the Diocese of Rockville Centre Religious Studies Program. These classes are for those lay people who are involved in catechetical ministry or for all interested in knowing more about their faith.

Courses offered at St. Patrick’s are listed below. St. Patrick Parish is very lucky to have a yearly series of courses offered by instructors Elaina Kedjierski and Beverly Beinemann. Classes Offered:

  • The Church (Ecclesiology)
    • Participants will explore the Church’s evolving understanding of itself as a hierarchally ordered communio of disciples in communion with one another and the Triune God, commissioned by Baptism to bring about the evangelization and transformation of the world.

    • 5 Classes on Wednesdays at 7:30 - 9:30 PM

  • Christian Living (Morality)
    • Partipants will be introduced to the basic principles of Catholic Christian morality and decision-making, and how to apply to today’s moral issues.

    • 5 Classes on Wednesdays at 7:30 - 9:30 PM
    • Class Dates: 2011; October 12 and 26; November 2, 9 and 16.

  • Spirituality
    Prayer in Our Busy World
    • God desires to become even closer to us. Prayer is our access to that closeness. Yet sometimes we can all experience dryness or resistance in our prayer. This course will explore the richness of prayer and the many ways of praying, especially in our busy world. It is a course for catechists who are attempting to teach children to pray and for anyone desiring to enhance their individual prayer life. Scripture and other readings from our tradition will be used to explore the many blessings received from a full prayer life.

  • Scripture
    The Messiah’s Death
    • Offered during Lent, this course will examine Gospel passages regarding the events in the life of Jesus Christ from Gethsamene through the crucifixion. The political atmosphere in 30 AD Israel will be examined as well as the connections between Messianic prophecies of the Old Testament and the life and mission of Jesus Christ as fulfillment of Old Testament promises.
